Evenings of History - 2013
For almost three decades the Ouray County Historical Society has offered a series of summer evening lectures on historical topics. The first six talks take place in the Massard Room of the Ouray Community Center while the final talk will be held in the Ridgway Town Hall. All talks begin at 7:30 pm. The dates and topics for the seven 2013s Evening in History lectures are given below:
June 18, Mary Van Buren, “What the Vanoli Gold Belt Theater site can tell us about the ‘Old West.’"
June 25, Tom Hillhouse, “What’s in Your Attic Or Basement? The Story of The 1897 Corbett Fitzsimmons Fight Poster and Early Motion Pictures.“
July 2, Gail Saunders, "Recreation and Celebration in Ouray County Through the Lens of Historic Photos.”
July 9, Tim Winegard, “And Many More Moccasins: The Ute, Navajo and Blackfoot Nations and World War I.”
July 16, Bob Risch, “The History of the Red Mountain Project.”
July 23, Don Paulson, "How the Peaks in the San Juan Mountains got their Names."
July 31 (Wednesday) Karl Schaeffer, “Ridgway and Its Railroads.”
* The talks take place on Tuesdays at 7:30 pm at the Ouray Community Center except for July 31st which takes place on Wednesday at 7:30 pm at the Ridgway Town Hall.
